Clark/Belmont Music Fest

Clark/Belmont Music Fest

Date: Saturday, October 10, 2009
Time: Noon - 10pm
Location: Belmont Avenue between Clark and Sheffield | Chicago
Presented By: The Next American Star
Beneficiary: Central Lake View Neighbors & Weisman Park
Chicago's outdoor summer festival season will get a mid-autumn encore at the "Clark/Belmont Music Fest," presented by The Next American Star, Saturday, October 10, on the bustling strip of Belmont between Clark Street and Sheffield. Event proceeds will benefit the renovation of Weisman Park, located at few block away at 900 W. Oakdale (at Mildred).

Clark/Belmont Music Fest will feature food, arts & crafts and -- on the music stage at Clark and Belmont -- a day of performances by the seven of the eight young adult rock band finalists (four male, four female) competing to win the title of The Next American Star (www.thenextamericanstar.com).

The Web-based The Next American Star competition kicked off this past spring with 100 nationwide up-and-coming bands (all unsigned) vying to be the winner in two categories: male and female. Regional finals were held in June in New York City, Dallas and Chicago. While the winners won't be determined until later this year, the eight finalists playing at Clark/Belmont Music Fest will also participate in other The Next American Star promotional events being held over that weekend in Chicago.

Suggested Donation: $5 before 5pm; $7 after.

About the Beneficiaries
Weisman Park Advisory Council is the official organization for the park and is registered with the Chicago Park District. Our role is to spearhead the capital campaign and work on the development plans for this $750,000 renovation. In this partnership with the Chicago Park District, the Council raises two thirds of the funds or $500,000 and the Park District contributes the final $250,000. The park, located at 901 West Oakdale at Mildred, services about 5,000 households. It was last renovated 20 years ago and is in need of repair. Our vision is to transform this space into a contemporary, urban, universally accessible play space which would better meet the developmental needs of children and the community.

Plans call for expanded equipment for tots to 5 years of age and another area for those 6-12 years of age. The many steps and levels will be eliminated making it more accessibility to people of all ages and ability. New soft surfaces, landscaping, benches, picnic areas and water fountain are planned. A focal point for the park will be a splash pad for kids of all ages.

Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital has established a matching grant program and will match every dollar the WPAC raises up to $250,000. To date, $170,000 in pledges and contributions have been gathered plus the match dollars brings us to $340,000. We need your help to get us to our goal of $500,000. Come on out to support the festival and know you are doing a good deed!

Inquires on the project should be directed to Marie Poppy, President, Weisman Park Advisory Council at mariepoppy@comcast.net.

Central Lake View Neighbors is a community based and funded non profit volunteer organization. CLVN represents the residents within the boundaries of Belmont to the north, Halsted to the east, Racine to west and Diversey to the south. The organization was formed to provide residents a forum to discuss issues ranging from development proposals, zoning, liquor license, street fairs and other community matters. The Alderman recognizes this group and refers local issues to this organization for comment, review and approval.
