Be a part of one of the Midwest’s finest events – the 10th Annual Southwest Half Marathon & 10K! Our events this year include:

  • Half Marathon and 10K competitions for world class runners
  • Walk, Run or Roll race for special needs athletes
  • FREE Kid’s Dash for kids 10 & under

And, best of all – our events end with FUN! Post-race celebrations include a live band, beer and treats!

The course for these events is an extremely fast, flat course that was recently resurfaced and will lead you through the Cook County Forest Preserves for a scenic, green course. The Half Marathon and 10K races include:

  • Chip Timing
  • Mile Markers
  • Pace Teams
  • Cash Prizes & 5-Year Group Awards
  • Technical Shirts for Men and Women
  • Commemorative Medals for All Finishers.

New This Year – the FREE Kid’s Dash Fun Run, sponsored by Palos Health! This is a non-competitive event that will consist of short runs of different lengths for several different age groups. Each kid who participates will receive a commemorative ribbon.

Since 2008, the Half Marathon and other events have raised more than $200,000 for area charities. Join us this year and support the South West Special Recreation Association. A 2010 Governor’s Hometown Award and several years of recognition by the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) are additional reasons to expect a full field in 2017.

Parking Details

Route 83 will be closed to traffic after 4:30am on Sunday morning. Therefore, it is critical that you follow the signs to race parking, which is located to the east, north and south of 76th Avenue and Route 83 in Palos Heights. As you approach the intersection of Route 83 and SW Highway (west) or Route 83 and Harlem Avenue (east), traffic control volunteers will be on hand to help.
For parents of Kid’s Dashers arriving later in the morning - if you do not live close by and need parking, please try the lots on Route 83 to the east between 76th Avenue and Harlem (Starbucks, 7-Eleven, Private Bank) or on Route 83 to the west near the intersection of Southwest Highway (Dunkin Donuts, CVS).
There will also be parking available in the Palos Park Metra station parking lot at 123rd Street and 82nd Avenue in Palos Park. From there you will have to walk to the race event site at City Hall in Palos Heights.
